Having the serial console in a tmux pane is far more convenient than the web interface. For now, I ssh into NanoKVM and start picocom manually but it would be nice to have something like set2net. The console port is the serial port such for locally connecting to a device, meaning you need to be physically beside the device with a console cable from the port to your laptop. It also provides output during the power-up and POST on your laptop screen.

Console Redirection Most Linux distributions can be configured for connections via the serial console port, which enables administration of a machine even if it has no keyboard, mouse, monitor, or network attached to it. A basic environment for this scenario is two machines connected using a serial cable (9-pin connector cable). BIOS setting: Advanced→Serial Port Console Redirection→COM1-Console Redirection Settings & EMS-Console Redirection Settings Please set the Putty’ “Connection Type” = Serial, and “Speed” are equal with “Bits per second”, and click “Open”. There’s something called SLIP (Serial Line Internet Protocol) for allowing the sending of internet packets over a serial connection. There appear to be SLIP implementations for Raspberry as well. However, learning material recommendations are off topic here because they are solved by the most basic of Google Searches. So, what have you searched?

Click Terminal on the management page, select Serial Terminal, choose the serial port to use, enter the baud rate, and click Start to use it. Note: The serial terminal feature uses WebSSH + picocom, and the usage is similar No matter what serial device is connected to the remote computer, you may treat it as a real serial hardware device connected to your local physical port. Deploy Remote Serial Ports Server using simple copy/paste to the remote computer to share com port over network. Then connect it using Remote Serial Ports Client running on your PC.

I am attempting to debug an application on a Motorola Droid, but I am having some difficulty connecting to the device via USB. My development server is a Windows 7 64-bit VM running in Hyper-V, and so I cannot connect directly via USB in the guest or from the host. On Linux, I want to send a command string (i.e. some data) to a serial port (containing control characters), and listen to the response (which also usually might contain control characters). How can I do this as simplest as possible on Linux? An example is appreciated!

A virtual COM port or a virtual serial port is an ideal solution when a legacy software application expects a connection to a serial device port (COM port or COMM port) but cannot connect, due to a physical lack of available serial ports. Instead, we reconfigure the computer to send serial port data over a local area network or the Internet as if over a true
