Stuttering In Windowed Mode When Window Has Focus
Di: Stella
Do you have gsync? Gw2 has some weird interactions with gsync and borderless windowed mode. Try disabling gsync and see if the stuttering goes away or not.

Hey, is there reason why game is stuttering when its set to windowed or borderless? All issues go away once game is in fullscreen mode. My game is as much optimized as I desktop but could do. Is that an engine issue? It’s pretty annoying for me because when I’m testing I like to have game in window but the stuttering makes testing annoying as hell.
I play in windowed fullscreen and experience „microstutter“ where my frame times hit 16-18ms, and my FPS caps at 60fps even though I have vsync and foreground fps cap turned off. When I make something on my second monitor (like google chrome) the focused window, my frame times on POE drop to 6 seconds and my FPS increases to >100.
iRacing Stuttering Windowed Mode
What’s up, i’m having an issue with my PC , after I chose to upgrade to 1809 from a previous version, I got strange performance issues in certain games. Long story short. I deducted it to the fullscreen / Borderless/windowed modes. Something happens when force the game I swap between them and when I use I have forever had the issue in bf4 (and some other games) that when the game window is in focus my fps and GPU Usage% drop its super frustrating. Here is what my GPU usage looks like in game (lots of downspikes.)
Also I am using discrete graphics mode so shouldn’t be a integrated graphics issue (not that it should matter as just running a 4K video at 60FPS is easily handled by the onboard graphics on the 13900HX) . I have tested with the laptop display, and external 1080p 75Hz display and an external 4K 60HZ display with consistent stuttering
While I don’t have a really solid solution for you, I do know that GSync can work in borderless windowed mode; I’m running in that configuration. THAT SAID, Razer’s „game boost“ thing has sometimes erroneously gotten confused by stuff and caused my game to drop to like 20-some figured out how FPS for chunks of time specifically in borderless windowed. Try switching to Fullscreen Windowed Mode and disable XMP. Try changing the performance mode to best performance in Windows Settings. Also in your graphics control panel, to maximum performance if using NVIDIA.
UPDATE: MSFS 2020 Stuttering when window focused, working in background (and crazy high CPU usage) FIX/workaround – Change your processor scheduling to „background services.“ Even when in borderless windowed ( definitely not a way to play a game imo ) or even windowed my video playback stutters, which didnt happen in windows 10 even when in full screen While running PoE, all video playback applications stutter. This includes Youtube, Twitch, Netflix, and other streaming websites, VLC, Windows Media Player, Plex, you name it. The stuttering occurs even if I’m just at the login screen. It occurs only when PoE is the focus window.
Freesync Stuttering With Borderless Windowed Mode
Maplestory laggy when in Windowed Mode My maple lags when it’s in windowed mode. It’s like a weird stuttering lag and my fps drops to a consistent drop for a few seconds. It’s smooth in fullscreen. Anyone know what’s wrong? trueI just want to say this was driving me mad. I couldn’t figure out what was causing it but I finally think I figured out how to fix it. Started playing Halo Infinite again since Heroes of Reach which was almost 2 years ago and the very first thing I noticed was that there was something incredibly off about the „feel“ of gunplay, it was as if where I was staring in-game wasn’t 1:1 with where Games that run in full screen have exclusive control over rendering, hence its actual name „Exclusive full screen.“ Windows is no longer rendering the desktop, so when you alt+tab out, Windows has to render the desktop, but at the same time, it stops rendering the game. This may cause games to freak out because the renderer is no longer running. Full
Freesync Stuttering With Borderless Windowed Mode by Numbers00 » 28 Feb 2025, 15:28 I’ve been having some issues recently with stuttering specifcally with borderless windowed games.
With windows 8 and above, the OS can detect when a game is running in borderless windowed mode and give it exclusive GPU access, which means there is no performance penalty. Since Windows 11, my PC lags when I tab out of games. Sometimes all monitors go black for a moment, Discord sound starts to lag and my mouse stutters. Just found out today that when in fullscreen my games feel a tad choppy but when I switch to windowed borderless my games feel smoother? any reasoning for this because I’d really prefer to play in fullscreen.
Can you guys list your video card maker? If you are using AMD instead of Nvidia you will get completely different issues. (went from a 1060 to a 5600xt and its somehow worse at stuttering). It seems to me AMD has some issues running I’m having a very low framerate in Roblox Studio currently but only when the window is in focus. When it’s in the background (focus is on another window) and I drag my mouse over it the performance seems normal.
Games stutter in Windowed Borderless with Dual Monitor Set-Up.

Hey guys, I just wanted to share a possible fix for random system freezes and stutters on windows 11 24h2. Settings -> System -> Display -> Graphics -> Optimizations for windowed games -> Off Two weeks ago windows update forced me to install 24H2 and after that my pc started to stutter randomly, new nvidia drivers started displaying black screen when I
EDIT: once i click on my second monitor the video plays fine. haven’t tried this with games but I assume the same happens. so the stuttering only happens when I’m focused on the window that is borderless Hello I recently decided to try out windows 11 to see if i like it. Honestly it’s largely the same as window 10, with one big exception: When I’m in a game (WoW, Forza Horizon 5, No Mans Sky, others), and i alt+tab out, there’s really bad UI lag. The above games performance’s are about the same as windows 10 when the window is focused, but if they’re open and i try to scroll twitter or This does not happen in windowed mode. If I turn on the Fps-counter of my 240Hz Monitor, I get constant 240fps on windowed, and after a few seconds in fullscreen, the counter drops to 110 and up to 240 and down to 80 and so on, no more stable frames. The fps-counter in-game stay constant though!
I just tested this for at least an hour and I’ve found that DLSS Frame Generation has stuttering issues when in normal full screen mode, but it’s almost perfectly smooth when using Borderless Windowed mode. There’s definitely something wonky going on with frame gen. I hope this helps anyone experiencing micro stutters. I’m curious to know if this trick helps anyone else!! If the game is being rendered in windowed or borderless windowed mode, Windows will force vsync on, even if you disable it in in-game settings. So that can cause it to feel laggy due to input delay. But you should still be able to force the game to render fullscreen on the main monitor while you have two monitors connected.
This is a very recent issue for me, but doing research, it appears this issue has long existed since Endwalker and no clear fix has been found. I recently went from a 2060 to a 7800 XT as of last month. All drivers were removed from the 2060 via DDU and I have installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled the AMD drivers repeatedly.
Are you using G-Sync? If so, after you launch the game in Windowed mode press ALT+TAB and switch to another application, details contradict then switch back to the game. There is a bug that’s been around for years in which G-Sync doesn’t work right at
TLDR: Check your windows display settings because iRacing will sync up with it rather than what Nvidia says. Hello everyone, I have an issue on windowed mode, when I’m not focused on the window I have 200+FPS, when I focus the window back I
[SOLVED] Videos lagging/dropping frames on second monitor when playing games in full screen/windowed fullscreen ? A power supply issue? Windows 11 being wonky? The fact that so many of the details contradict one another is what’s most confusing: system-wide stuttering, but only on certain windows and in certain programs, mostly whenever something is being typed. In-game stuttering exacerbated by keyboard input but completely absent when using
Disable Optimizations for Windowed Games Windows 11’s optimization features for windowed games can inadvertently cause random freezing even outside games. Turning this feature off has resolved freezing issues for many users. Step 1: Open Settings (press Win + I) and navigate to System > Display. Graphics. Hey everyone, When I play in Borderless Windowed on Windows 10 I everyone When I play in get stutters, but my fps doesn’t drop. It just look overall unsmooth. When I change to fullscreen it’s completely fine. On Windows 7 all I had to do to fix it was turn off Desktop Window Manager aka Desktop Composition. But in 12 votes, 47 comments. So i play all games in borderless window mode and after applying 21.4.1 it has constant frequent stutters now Anyone know
I have a fairly high end pc, but I get tons of lag spikes as well as slow loading times in newer versions (1.16 and up, maybe 1.15 I havnt tried) of Minecraft. This mostly happens in multiplayer, but occasionally happens in singleplayer. Also, idk if this is related, but when I play it in maximized windowed mode, it has a hard cap at 163 fps, but when I play it like in a window can anyone tell me a cause for this? i really dislike playing windowed borderless, since i play competetively, but the game feels like true 240hz on windowed borderless, whereas fullscreen mode makes my eyes hurt (not in a litteral sense, its just very annoying, and not visually nice to play on) sorry for the long post, hope someone It happens both in windowed mode, with the window maximized, and in full screen mode. It does NOT appear to be an issue, when I turn on TV mode, however. And I did check the TV mode settings: Hardware encoding/acceleration is ENABLED. I cannot find that option without going into TV mode, which makes me wonder if that’s why I am
